Taiwan tsunami warning after 6.1 magnitude earthquake rocks island: ‘Be careful’

The alert said: “Be careful of tsunamis near the swaying coast and the mouth of the river just in case.”

The German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ) reported a magnitude 6.1 quake in Japan near Hualien City, Hualien, Taiwan.

France’s Réseau National de Surveillance Sismique (RéNaSS) listed the quake at magnitude 5.8.

A third agency, the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), reported the same quake with a magnitude 6.5.
