Sergio Perez claimed pole posture at the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix after Purple Bull crew-mate Max Verstappen created a shock early exit from Qualifying following a mechanical failure.
Verstappen experienced been an frustrating favourite to choose pole just after comfortably topping all a few observe sessions at Components 1’s fastest avenue circuit, but a driveshaft failure saw him return to the Crimson Bull garage midway by way of Q2 and immediately get out of the auto, leaving him to start off Sunday’s race in 15th.
The reigning environment champion’s exit set up a nearer than predicted contest to take top rated spot, but Perez held his composure to seal pole posture in Jeddah for a next successive season.
Charles Leclerc was second for Ferrari, but faces a 10-location grid penalty, which means Aston Martin’s Fernando Alonso will be part of Perez on the entrance row.
George Russell supplied a strengthen for Mercedes by taking fourth forward of the other Ferrari of Carlos Sainz, but Lewis Hamilton could only take care of eighth as he remained off the pace of his group-mate.
