Tottenham to hold crunch talks with Sporting Lisbon over Pedro Porro – The Athletic

Tottenham Hotspur are set for pivotal talks today about the potential signing of Pedro Porro from Sporting Lisbon before the end of the transfer window.

Porro’s camp are increasingly confident the two clubs will agree a deal for the Spain international to return to the Premier League. Porro was only a substitute for Sporting’s Portuguese League Cup semi-final against FC Arouca last night, coming on for 13 minutes.

Potentially decisive talks between Spurs and Sporting are set to take place on Wednesday. No agreements have yet been reached, however.

Sporting have made no secret of their desire to keep hold of Porro and their manager, Ruben Amorim, has repeatedly insisted any side wishing to buy the former Manchester City player will need to meet his €45million (£39.9m) release clause.

Chelsea and Barcelona have also been admirers of Porro but Tottenham are in pole position for the 23-year-old as it stands.

Manchester City would profit if a deal went through as they have a 30 per cent sell-on clause.

Though Porro never played for the club, Porro was officially a City player from 2019 until last summer, when he joined Sporting permanently after a successful loan spell.

Porro spent one season on loan at Real Vallodolid before two campaigns at Sporting.

When Sporting took up their option to buy Porro at the end of last season, he signed a three-year contract until the summer of 2025.

Porro’s performances for Sporting saw him earn one senior Spain cap under Luis Enrique in March 2021, which came in a World Cup qualifier against Georgia.

This season, Porro has been a constant fixture in Amorim’s Sporting side, recording three goals and 11 assists in 25 matches across all competitions.

Tottenham, who are fifth in the Premier League, are looking to do further business before Tuesday’s deadline and are set to complete the loan signing of Arnaut Danjuma later today.
